Respire : make time for stillness.


Almost 2 months ago I entered my morning dance company session late along with 6 other members. Basically we all were late and the instructor got pretty angry over the indiscipline. She told us to sit in the studio. No phone, diary, conversations. Nothing. Just to sit. It seemed weird to everyone. A dance studio is a spacious hall and therefore we all were sitting on the floor. First 5-10 minutes everyone was talking through gestures and eyes, smirking the way out. But the session usually ended by 2 pm and that meant we had to sit for 3-4 hours. Just sit still!

So I started noticing each one. Some of my friends were so was obvious that this wasn’t the best time for them. Some were extremely restless, some were sleeping and some were murmuring! They just couldn’t stay still. They couldn’t breathe deep. And I suddenly realized that staying still requires a lot of patience. Just to tell ourselves to stay away from noise is very important. It took time for me too. I meditated, cried and conceptualized many things in those 3 hours of silence.

Silence has the power to give many answers. There is a solace within ourselves even when there’s a storm outside. Trust the peace within and befriend it. You don’t always need an overt medium to flow.

Respire. Sit Still. Sit alone. Breathe.
